Category F
Registration: On the spot during Mood Indigo ’08. The competition is open only to college students with a valid college I-card.
Team Size:
Solo + 2 optional musical accompanists (College students) for eliminations & Semi Finals
Optionally accompanist will also be provided by Mood Indigo.
Eliminations: Eliminations will happen separately in for Hindustani and Carnatic musicians – each subdivided into three categories: Vocals, tune instrumental, percussion.
Hindustani:
• Vocals: Each participant will present a drut/madhyalaya in any raga for 5 min.
• Tune Instrumental: Each participant will present any raga for 5 min.
• Percussion Instrumental: Each participant will present any taal for 5 min.
Carnatic:
• Vocals: Each participant will present a composition in any ragam for 5 min.
• Tune Instrumental: Each participant will present any ragam for 5 min.
• Percussion Instrumental: Each participant will present any taalam for 5 min.
Semi Finals:
4 participants from each of the above six sub-categories are selected to perform before the respective mentors in each category (Hindustani and Carnatic). Format same as eliminations.
Finals:
2 Hindustani groups and 2 Carnatic groups with 1 tune instrumentalist, 1 percussionist and 1 vocalist in each are formed after the Semi Finals and mentored by accomplished personalities to perform a 20 minute piece doing justice to all three members of the group in the final face off.
• Participants will be provided with a harmonium and tabla accompanist in the eliminations and Semi Finals. The participant may make use of this or may get their own accompanist.
• Electronic tanpura will be provided.
• Strictly no film songs allowed.
• The decision of the judges will be final and binding.
Judging Criteria: Accuracy and clarity of strokes or notes, rhythm, choice of composition, innovation, overall clarity and impact. In the finals, coordination among group members would be an added judging criterion.
Prizes
In each of the categories(Hindustani and Carnatic)
First place: 10,000 INR to the winning group
Second Place: 5,000 INR to the winning group
