Detective Fiction Quiz
We give you the plot of a Sherlock Holmes short story or novel, and ask you to identify both the villain and name of the short story. Simple? Yes, given that the villain is definitely someone we’ve told you about in our (guaranteed-to-make-AC Doyle-turn-over-in-grave) plot.
1. Holmes tries to outwit the Napoleon of crime in London, and chases him to Switzerland. Once there, they both go tumbling over a waterfall to their deaths…or do they?
2. Holmes helps a European royal, but not completely – he is outwitted, rarely for him, by ‘The Woman’.
3. Holmes goes to a Hall in the country to stay with Sir Henry, and finds that the only people near him are a certain birdwatcher and a certain lady. A dog is prominently featured as well.
4. Mr. Spaulding (the villain; we’ve told you his name because we didn’t expect you to remember it?), employs a number of men who have one distinguishing feature to cover up his nefarious deeds
