Burp! – Food & Beverages Quiz
This quiz is for all the gourmands and gluttons out there who have gone past the stage of plain old ingestion, digestion and indigestion – a hallmark of all those base mortals – and moved on to higher things - understanding the intricacies, subtleties, deconstruction and existentialist angst of the food itself.

A quiz about food and beverages, both from India and abroad.
Registration: On the spot at the venue during Mood Indigo ’08. The competition is open only to college students with a valid college I-card.

Direct Finals: The quiz will involve participants tasting/smelling certain foods and drinks.
• All food items used will be strictly vegetarian and non-alcoholic. Participants with allergies and/or other religious restrictions on certain foods are advised not to participate.
• Participants are advised to come on an empty stomach ’ there will be lots to eat and drink!
• Participants are expected to carry a pen for the competition.
• Use of unfair means is prohibited and shall lead to disqualification.

1. Recipes: You have to identify which Indian dish you’re likely to get if you follow our directions. Warning: we have changed a few things here and there

• Soak black gram and fenugreek seeds separately for 6 hours
• Soak raw rice, red gram, green gram, Bengal gram, cooked rice separately for 6 hours
• Grind them to make a batter which is neither too thick nor too thin
• Allow this batter to get fermented for 6 hours
• Add salt and a pinch of soda

B.
• In a large bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, 2 teaspoons cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, black pepper, ginger, and 4 teaspoons salt
• Stir in chicken, cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour
• Preheat a grill for high heat
• Lightly oil the grill grate. Thread chicken onto skewers, and discard marinade
• Grill until juices run clear, about 5 minutes on each side
• Melt butter in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Saute garlic and jalapeno for 1 minute. Season with 2 teaspoons cumin, paprika, and 3 teaspoons salt
• Stir in tomato sauce and cream
• Add grilled chicken, and simmer for 10 minutes

• Grind the red chilies and cashewnuts to a fine paste
• To the mutton apply the ginger - garlic paste and beaten curd. Set aside
• Add the marinated mutton, ˝ of the fried onion, one teaspoon garam masala and salt to taste
• Keep frying till ghee separates. Add 1˝ cups warm water. Pressure cook till tender
• Add the rice and fry a little. Add the green chilies and salt to taste. Add enough warm water. Cook till rice is done, remove and spread on a thali, discarding the whole masala
• Cover with rice, followed by a mutton layer. Finish with a rice layer
• Sprinkle the rice with saffron milk and dot with ghee
• Serve hot, garnished with eggs cut into halves

• Take a mixing bowl and add Atta and Maida. Now add the Salt and the Baking Powder
• Sieve this mixture to get some air into the mixture and separate each and every particle of flour
• Add oil to this mixture and then start kneading it by adding a little bit of water slowly
• Get a smooth and elastic dough
• Cover this dough with a moist kitchen towel for 30 minutes
• Make small balls of the dough and roll it like thin Chapati of about 12 inches diameter circle
• Take a wok and invert it on the fire
• The cooking is done on the inverted side of the wok
